Challenging clinical incidents are part of everyday patient management. It is important for health professionals that are part of the team to have the opportunity to come together to share information and support each other.

 

The Post Event Huddle (PEH) provides a simple four-step approach to guide the facilitation of a team discussion following a difficult clinical event.

 

It should be emphasised that the huddle is not intended to be a psychological debrief, in-depth analysis of the event or educational /quality assurance exercise. If the need for these is identified, this can be flagged and addressed later.
